New Year Greetings to one and all!
An entire decade behind us! It seems that the Y2K hullabulloo happened just the other day! As Ramu C has said, let us pray that while Kali marches on, we are able to keep our heads and hearts firmly in place, and remain untouched by it, our spiritual moorings protecting us at all times and at all places.
I could attend quite a few concerts during the second half of December. Now there is only one more week to go for my own concert, so planning to stop going out & practise well. Hope I do a decent job!

Lakshmi had called me for the Sunday meet, but I could not go. With a lec-dem series to attend the following 2 days from morning to evening, I had to also catch up with some house work. With so many concerts going on, if only there was a way to divide ourselves into 3 or 4, so that we could be in many places at a time.....:)

Sorry chittappa, believe it or not, I did not notice that Ramya-Anuj's Anniversary was missing in the list!
It has been a week sinsce I opened psc blog. The last week was really hectic as I took full advantage of Sakatapuram Periava's presence just round the corner and went for darshan as much as possible. Plus threw in a few concerts, writing for Sruti and my own practise too!
Not to forget that my machinar and orpadi were here too.
From tomorrow for three days Music Forum is hosting a series of lec-dems at TAG centre and Ramnarayan has deputed me to cover all of them for Sruti. So, again my notes-taking spree!
So let me wish PSC FAMILY a VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR! Unbelievable a decade has zipped by since all the hullabulloo about Y2K!

Belated birthday wishes to Prashanth and Bhuvana Perimma.
I think this is my first post since Diwali. Hope everybody had a great diwali, we definitely did :) I tried making a different sweet this time (apart from the usual suspect - Gulab Jamun). Made chocolate walnut burfi from one of Sanjeev Kapoor's books. The dish itself is not as fancy as its name though. Finally, it turned out to be layered theratti paal (phew after all that effort)!!. Chocolate flavoured theratti paal wedged in-between 2 layers of plain theratti paal, topped with chocolate!!! Well, anything chocolate definitely tastes good. So, yes it was real yumm.
Otherwise, just the normal routine with Vaishnavi falling sick every 3-4 weeks!!

The famous movie RamaRajya came in the 1940s and had a song by Latha "Bina Madhura Madhura Kachibo". Madurai Mani heard this and asked a friend-composer to write a song in the same tune and thus was born the popular song KANDAN KARUNAI PURIYUM VADIVEL in Bimplas. I read this in Amudha Surabhi magazine.

Again, on Wed., he borrows Rs.50 from the first friend and gives it to the second friend. This goes on for sometime. Suddenly, he stops paying both his friends. One day both the friends catch him and ask their Rs.50. This man tells them," see, I am busy these days. So, do not trouble me. Every Wednesday you give him Rs.50 and you ( the second friend) give him Rs.50, every Saturday".
I used to play the roll of Mr.Wednesday.

Singing duo
This is a rather late post.
On Deepavali-eve, there was a variety enertainment programme at Brindavan Palm Grove. For more than an hour, residents and some of their guests sang, film songs in all languages. Rukku and Jayaraman presented the "Meera" song, "Characharam". They had practised for a few days, but were still nervous. They had no need to, for it was really a good effort and was well and widely appreciated. A "therukoothu" by two resident-ladies evoked loud applause.
It was a jolly evening in Brindavan and the large gathering enjoyed it, despite early rain and continuing threat of rain, which made a planned buffet on the lawns move inside.

The American Hyphen Society is a community-based, not-for-profit, grass-roots consciousness-raising/ education-research alliance that seeks to help effectuate the across-the-board self-empowerment of wide-ranging culture-, nationality-, ethnicity-, creed-, gender-, and sexual-orientation defined identity groups by excising all multiculturally-less-than- sensitive terminology from the English language, and replacing it with counter-hegemonic, cruelty-, gender-, bias-, and, if necessary, content-free speech.

No one can forget Anu's wedding at Thirupathy. The trip was really an adventure . We were in Hyderabad then. I had booked a train ticket to Chennai, for the marriage. But I wanted to cancel the trip as trains were running late due to heavy downpour. Ashok forced me to go and made sure I boarded the train by sending escorts to the station.

Joke for the day
He approached her and asked; " Mrs.. Jones, do you know me?" |
She responded, "Why, yes, I do know you, Mr. Williams. I've known you since you were a young boy, and frankly, you're a big disappointment to me.
You lie, cheat on your wife, manipulate people and talk about them behind their backs. You think you're a big shot when you haven't the brains to realize you never will amount to anything more than a two-bit paper pusher.
Yes, I know you."
The lawyer was stunned! Not knowing what else to do, he pointed across the room and asked, " Mrs.. Jones, do you know the defense attorney?"
She again replied, "Why, yes, I do. I've known Mr. Bradley since he was a youngster. He's lazy, bigoted, and has a drinking problem. He can't build a normal relationship with anyone and his law practice is one of the worst in the state. Not to mention he cheated on his wife with three different women.
One of them was your wife. Yes I know him."
The defense attorney almost died.

BRINDAVAN
I have read the postings to date and enjoyed Ramu's and Vaishnavi's jokes. Our week's stay in Brindavan is coming to a close. Papa and KT Ramani are coming here today before lunch so that we can all be together for a day. Tomorrow Saradam and i go home. We have enjoyed the week here, with nothing to do. In Kovaipudur we both have some work to do and so coming to Brindavan is a 'holiday' for us with brothers and sisters. Particularly for Saradam who does not have to think about cooking.

Thank you very much for your wishes on our anniversary.
I have been trying (mostly in vain) to make something for Vaishnavi's lunch box so that it comes back empty. I have observed that every time I give her rotis it comes back empty!!! How can I make rotis daily in the morning, SHUDDER!! So, I made idli and chutney about 2 days back. As the usual routine is, I called appa in the evening to find out how I had fared.
This was the conversation we had:
Me: Had she finished her lunch today?
Appa: Yes, she was so excited. First thing she told was she finished her lunch!! Tiffin box thodachu saaptaa inikku
Me (to Vaishnavi): Thodachu saaptiya?
Vaishnavi: Illa ma, naan pichu daan saapten. Thathakku onnume theriyala!!!
I was in office, but could not help but burst out laughing!!

BURTHDAYS,
Wishing a Happy Birthday to Skanda, Kiran, Sundaresan and everybody else having Birthday this month.
For my 80th Birthday (star birthday on 13th Oct) we had arranged an Abhishekam in the Sivan Kutil here - but it was postponed as our Siddhar Swami went out of station and was performed on 30th. Though I am unable to sit on the floor long, we attended the abhishekam fully and it was very satisfying. The abhishekam consisted of the usual puja to the kalasam first followed by the abhishekam with water, oil, seeyakkai, two kudams of milk, ghee, honey, curd, sandal paste, fruits, panchamirtham, vibuthi and milk. I wished I had taken my camera with me. The neivedyam was Sambar Saadham and curd rice and we used the prasaadam for our night meal.
The day after my star birthday we went to Pudukode village for the Navarathri celebrations as mentioned by Jayaraman earlier and it was a very enjoyable experience.
Saradam and I are going to spend a week in Brindavan with Jayaram and Narayanan.

Happy B'day
A very happy birthday to Ramakrishna perippa and Jayaram Perippa.
Sorry am late again. Though I did login to our blog, I left a comment on an older post, but forgot to post my wisehs :(
This year, I did not keep Golu as officially we do not have festivals (M's perimma passed away). Also, with the second shift, I would not do justice to the Golu if I did have. I'd not even be able to light the lamp in the evening.
Nevertheless, the festival spirit has definitely set in. I have to pass doraiswamy subway daily to board my company bus at 12.30. The crowd level has increased considerably (after a brief lull after the aadi sales) the last 3 days or so. So, devicing an alternate route till Diwali. All the same, the sight of the well-lit shops (when we are not in a hurry) definitely do give a "kick" ;)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Skanda, my husband (heehee), Charu, Rajan, Ramya, Sekhar and Kiran.
And Anniversary wishes to Srikant-Vidya, Akila-Mohan. Wish you many more years of happy togetherness.
I will be giving a 1 1/2 hour concert at Velcaheri tomorrow - this is a last minute happening since the original team cancelled.
On Vijaya Dasami day, L&T-ECC is going to perform the Bhoomi Puja for a new medical centre for Prayas-ECC right opposite our present med centre. We are planning to run this on the lines of Andheri med centre and will bring in top specialists for the poor people in the locality free of cost or at very subsidised rates.

Thank you perippa, for your wishes. I will convey them to Mohan.
Mohan, Vaishnavi and I had been to Vallikkavu for 3 days. We had a lovely, peaceful, energizing time there. I took the remaining week off and just chilled out. Well, it was more of getting some pending things done than chilling out.
V and I went to EA mall (the new mall in Chennai) during that period. We had a great time there too. As we went during a week day, it was empty and we were able to have a good time.
Pray that Thambi perippa gets well soon.

THAMBI
I had sent a forward to Ramaa and she replied in which she said Thambi knocked himself against something (he does not remember) and has been in pain. I telephoned her. She says that Thambi is walking about but turning in his bed etc is painful and Ashok thought that he could see his ribs moving. On examination, the doctor has said there could be a fracture which cannot be confirmed but anyway there is no treatment and it has to heal by itself and Thambi carries on with pain and painkillers.

Greetings and so on
It was Anu's birthday on 19 Sepetember and Chandru's on 25 September. Here is wishing them a happy birthday and many happy returns.
Vimala and I have completed half of our sojourn in Sri Lanka. Having a good time. We went to Bentota and Galle and came back this afternoon. Greeat scenery, less and more disciplined traffic, practically no honking.
I do not have a computer here and use an I-Pad, so it is somewhat tough making posts in the blog. And, of course, no photo is possible till I return to Coimbatore.
Best wishes to all.

Best wishes to Anu on her birthday. Very many happy returns to her. This year`s birthday gift to her is the presence of PSR & Mythily in Singapore.
While saying this, I remember the excellent time we had in Singapore when Mohan Akila were there. Anu used to see us almost daily and she took us out in her Lexus. Nice time it was.

Update from Kovaipudur
Best Wishes to Anu and Ramu for their Birthday.
Due to the demise of Charu's Kannan Anna, Vinayaka Chathurthi was subdued here though Saradam did make Modhakams and Vadai. Charu has left for Bombay yesterday and will be back on Saturday.
Vivek is going to have a nasal spray by a doctor in his school as a preventive of Swine Flu (approved by our family doctor here), at a concessional charge of Rs.200.

From Ramu
1. After M.Vaishnavi, it is Akila`s turn now to fall sick. She is having fever with body pain from yesterday.
2. I am sorry to know the sad demise of Charu`s Kannan anna.
3. The traffic in Mumbai must be really a nightmare to commute. I can not imagine how people drive two wheelers these days. I use my scooter only around the four roads around our flat. Driving even there needs skill now, with all four roads dug up and with full of slush.

Pillaiyar Chaturthi
I don't know who sang the song - it is funny & interesting, and the singing is good with clarity. I will ask Vasanthi where she got the fwd from.
Rajiv, Nameeta & I went to Pune early yesterday for Ganesha Chaturthi. Rajiv performed the puja with Nameeta's thatha's instructions. We came back in the evening itself as Rajiv had to go for a recording this morning.
Performance anxiety has set in for the 16th pgm - more prayers for that!!
Yes, here too we have had some dispiriting news from many sides. Nameeta's mother is suffering pretty badly from sciatica. Undergoing some acupressure treatment. (Jay) Kanchana's mother came down with cold-cough-fever which developed into breathing difficulty. She has been in the ICU on ventilator for a week now, her left lung is badly infected, but all test results show negative. She is being given broad spectrum medicines, and has shown a slight improvement since yesterday, but still not completely out of danger.
Only one thing we can do with all sincerity - pray for their recovery.
On top of this came news of Charu's Kannan anna's demise. After class with Vamanan in Chembur this afternoon, I plan to go to Matunga to see Veni manni & Charu's mother and Subhashree.
Commuting in Bombay was always time consuming and tiring. it has become more of a nightmare now.

Illness vaaram??
Am very glad to hear that Shankar anna is alright. All round I hear about elders and children falling sick. Now it's Vaishnavi's turn. She decided to fall sick yesterday. The temperature hit upto 103.2 just now. Have been sponging her to bring it down.
Our Ganesh Chaturthi this year was pretty subdued. Firstly, we officially do not have any festivals this year as M's perimma had passed away. And V's illness added to the spirit.

Jayashankar/Ganesh Chaturthi
Shankar recovered fairly quickly and the temperature came back to normal today. We are quite relieved. Priya has come and will go with Shankar to his apartment where she will stay for a week.
Thank you, Ramu, for your message. Hope everyone had a good festival today. Here at Brindavan, we got some modakams and appam this morning. Just now (4 to 6 p.m.) a musical feast is going on - a veena recital by Geetha Krishnamurthy.
Gayathri, sambandhi sappida mattaal is really funny. Who is the singer? Is it a traditional song sung at wedding lunches?

Wishes
Wishing a very happy anniversary to Papa athai and Lalitha athai. A very very happy birthday to Kumar anna and Shekhar anna.
I have been thinking a lot of Kumar anna lately. I read a book called "She's a jolly good fellow" by Sajitha Nair. This is about 2 girls who join the Indian army and how they are treated etc. The incidents are truly hilarious. But it set me thinking about Kumar anna and the military life.

7th September was Srikkanth's birthday and 8th was PGS's. Greetings to them and we wish them many happy returns. I missed out on posting the greetings on time. Yesterday morning Vimala and I had to go to Jayashankar's home at short notice when we received information that Shankar had been hospitalised with high fever. Brought him home last evening. The fever continues, though at slightly lower temperatures. I am hoping that the antibiotic will take effect soon and the fever will come down by tomorrow. Priya is expected to arrive on Saturday morning.

Sakatapuram Swamigal
Thanks for the WA wishes.
And our wishes to Papa athai , Lalitha athai & athimbers.
I had special reason to remember Lalitha athai. On Sunday I went to Chembur and had darshan of Sakatapuram Swamigal. After the puja we went in a line to receive teertham. Seeing me he said "Lalitha daane?"!!!! This is the umpteenth time, hahha! I said I am her niece, & tried to say that he had come to our house in Madras last time - I don't think I succeeded in getting that across clearly :)
I am now fully in preparations for the pgm on 16th. Vamanan has so many things on his mind, we students are trying to do as much as we can to ease his tension.
Bombay rains makes itself felt even now, playing hide and seek. Pleasant weather, nice if you don't have to go out in the slush.
Rajiv is slowly recovering from his bout of cold, fever, but cough persists, paavam.
Had lunch with Meena perima on Monday. She is coming over with Leela akka & athimber for breakfast on Thursday.
That's news from here for now.

1. Best wishes to KTA - Papa & PGS - Lalitha on their wedding day on Sep. 09. Very many happy returns to them.
I do not remember much of Papa`s wedding.
For Lalitha`s wedding, I came from Faridabad with PCJ & Vimala manni The system of complete contract for marriage was not there at that time and so all of us were very busy arranging everything for the marriage. I was much interested in car driving then and was enjoying driving Thambi anna`s Herald for all marriage work. After the marriage and returning to Faridabad, it took a month for me to come out of the home sickness!

The b'day cake
A very happy anniversary to Arvind anna and Anu manni.
I have to definitely share Vaishnavi's b'day cake experience. We basically wanted a cinderella shaped cake. And this is what we got
That's her barbie in the middle around which the cake was made. The dress is icing too. Cutting the cake required some training and getting used to!! So, that's why the cake was an experience

1. Many happy returns to Vidya and Vivek. All the best to them.
2. Very nice comments from Ramakrishnan, Gayathri and Akila on Meditation. I attended a week long course, Sudharshan Kriya, in 2007, conducted by Sri Sri Ravishankar's group. There they concentrate on breathing methods mostly and some meditation also. During Kriya practice and meditation, Sri Sri`s recorded thala (timing) and other messages used to be played. As Ramakrishnan says, He also says not to control any thoughts or feelings during meditation but be concious of it.
I feel I have not put in sincere efforts on this and I feel I should become more serious and practice more sincerely. Thanks.
