What title shall I give??

Main news in news papers in 2022:

1. Four women were arrested by police in Mambalam, for putting garbage in waste bins. The police are investigating who kept a waste bin in that area. Police are suspecting that waste bins arekept in Anna Nagar also, by the same gang.

2. An old couple were caught redhanded by the public, when they were trying to give an application for power connection directly to the counter clerk, without meeting the local MLA. Commissioner of Police said these kind of incidence take place because there are still some good people in that locality. He also said there is no need for panic as police is investigating the case.

3. People in Perambur area came running out of their homes during mid night, as in some houses lights came on suddenly. On enquiry it is found that while servicing the main panel in the substation, the mains were switched on accidentally. The case is transfered to CBI who have orderedan enquiry.

I am late as usual

Belated greetings to Rukku, Sukanya on their Birthdays and also to Kartik/Sukanya on their wedding anniversary.
Due to power cuts I could get the computer only now (Vivek and Prasad use it most of the available time. I have enjoyed the jokes from Aishwarya. The item on Rig Veda from Jayaram is very interesting and it is a pity that due to the nature of modern life the average Brahmin has no time for the vedas.

India

I am copying below a text from a mail sent to me by a friend in New York.
Jayaraman

HMV had once published a pamphlet giving the history of gramophone record.

Gramophone was invented by Thomas Alva Edison in the 19th century. Edison, who had invented many other gadgets like electric light and the motion picture camera, had become a legend even in his own time.

When He invented the gramophone record, which could record human voice for posterity, he wanted to record the voice of an eminent scholar on his first piece. For that he chose Prof. Max Muller of England, another great personality of the 19th century. He wrote to Max Muller saying, "I want to meet you and record your voice. When should I come?" Max Muller who had great respect for Edison asked him to come on a suitable time when most of the scholars of the Europe would be gathering in England.

Accordingly Edison took a ship and went to England. He was introduced to the audience. All cheered Edison's presence. Later at the request of Edison Max Muller came on the stage and spoke in front of the instrument. Then Edison went back to his laboratory and by afternoon came back with a disc.

He played the gramophone disc from his instrument. The audience was thrilled to hear the voice of Max Muller from the instrument. They were glad that voices of great persons like Max Muller could be stored for the benefit of posterity.

After several rounds of applause and congratulations to Thomas Alwa Edison, Max Muller came to the stage and addressed the scholars and asked them, "You heard my original voice in the morning. Then you heard the same voice coming out from this instrument in the afternoon. Do you understand what I said in the morning or what you heard in the afternoon?".

The audience fell silent because they could not understand the language in which Max Muller had spoken. It was `Greek and Latin' to them as they say. But had it been Greek or Latin, they would have definitely understood because they were from various parts of Europe. It was in a language which the European scholars had never heard.

Max Muller then explained what he had spoken. He said that the language he spoke was Sanskrit and it was the first sloka of Rig Veda, which says "Agni Meele Purohitam" . This was the first recorded public version on the gramophone plate.

Why did Max Muller choose this? Addressing the audience he said, "Vedas are the oldest text of the human race. And Agni Meele Purohitam is the first verse of Rig Veda. In the most primordial time when the people of Europe were jumping like Chimpanzees, from tree to tree and branch to branch, when they did not know how to cover their bodies, but with fig leaves, did not know agriculture and lived by hunting and lived in caves, at that remote past, Indians had attained high civilization and they gave to the world universal philosophies in the form of the Vedas.*

Power position

As Akila said, inverters can't get charged because there is no power. In Palm Grove I am told some inverters are not functioning because of this. We have power cuts for a minimum of 10 hours a day. Even when there is power, sometimes one phase does not function; today we could not heat water for bath. The UPS also gets power from that phase! We have been told not to use the phase-change switch.

Chennai residents are lucky--they have only two-hour power cuts.

Fully agree with Akila. I have never seen roads in such bad condition in the last ten years of our stay here (yes - we could celebrate next week, our tenth anniversary of moving here!)

Garbage disposal is also at an all time low. During last year's election time, the contract to Neel Metal was stopped. It took quite some time to get the new set to get going. They have not even begun to catch up on the backlog.

Jokes

Perippa and Aishwarya, the jokes were hilarious. As Aishwarya says, all jokes are somehow aimed at wives :(

The power situation in TamilNadu really sounds terrible. At this rate we would not even have enough power to charge the inverter!! Roads in Chennai are at an all-time worse too. Especially Arcot road. There was a survey in one of the FM channels a few days back on the worst roads of Chennai. It was almost unanimous that it was Arcot road. Still nothing is being done. All we see are some patch work being done on the roads, which need NO repair at all!! Where do we voice all these? There is enough written in the newspapers and enough said in Radio channels!! Sigh. God save us

Joke

That was funny :)Somehow the best of the jokes are always about marriage.
Totally unrelated, but was reminded of this joke.
A Tamilian call up sardar and asks " tamil therima??"
Sardar got mad, angrily replied.... "Hindi tera baap!!!"

(Doubtful) humour

Here is a post copied from another family blog - with apologies to all the Eves in the family.

Successful Marriage !

At the session of Marriage Seminar, the Convener asked Manubhai Patel, who said he was approaching his 50th wedding anniversary, to take a few minutes
and share some insight into how he had managed to stay married to the same woman all these years.

Manubhai replied to the assembled Husbands, "Well, I've tried to treat her nice, spend money on her, and, best of all, I took her to Mumbai for our 25th anniversary!"

The Convener responded, "Manubhai, you are an amazing inspiration to all the husbands here! Please tell us what you are planning for your wife
for your 50th anniversary?

"Manubhai proudly replied, I am going back to Mumbai to pick her up."

Vasant

For a moment, when I read the post about Vasant Krishnan and Mahalkshmi, I had no clue who they were!! I am only used to referring to her as Lakshmi. Only when I read along did I realize that Vasant is Ramaa akka's grandson.
A very happy birthday to Vasant. Many many happy returns of the day

Vasanth Krishnan

Vasant is the child of Mahalskhmi and Jayaram and grandson of Ramaa.  The photo is somewhat old.  Could Ramaa please update my photo collection of family members?  I would be very grateful;l.  This applies to other members of the family too.
who is Vasanth Krishnan?

Article on blogs and Hindu ad

Jayaram Peripa,
Liffy is an awesome reporter, yes :) The genesis of the article on family blogs is a tad long. When we were brainstorming the idea of new stories (which was, for the record, a year back!), we hit upon this idea of family blogs. We decided that we (Liffy and I) would do a joint story on that. That's when I took a break for maternity and then the sabbatical followed. She asked me your phone number (which was, again, six months ago.) and since I did not have it, I passed on Akila's number to get yours through her. So, well, I seriously think she has done a much better job than I'd have. Thanks for the link, Akila.
KN Atimber,
I was told about the ToI ad but I never got to see it. I found The H's ad condescending at first but developed a liking as I saw through the whole series. So, the management change is doing The H some good. But Subramaniya Swamy, in his Twitter message, has accused Siddharth V of being a US citizen, a person with strong Pakistani connection and worst still, a naxalite! Are these true or just one of his baseless allegations? I wanted to know if you know something of SV :)
