Ramani athimber

It was very shocking and sudden to hear about athimber. I came to know him much better during all my trips to Coimbatore.
As Gayathri akka said, he did not suffer at all.

RAMANI

I am deeply saddened.I loved Ramani p'pa dearly--he was a fun person, took me several times to play tennis & shared many tennis stories.

Please give my love & condolences to Pappa p'ma, Anand, Vidya & families

Krishnakumar
nambavey mudiayalai. It is too sudden. :(:(

The consolation is that for him, it was a good end with no prolonged suffering....

Bhaskar Ramamurthi has been appointed as the new director of Indian Institute of Technology – Madras.
“The institute will continue to focus on fundamental and translational research given the development imperative of the country and find solutions to the pressing problems facing the society,” said Prof. Ramamurthi, a professor of electrical engineering.
President Pratibha Patil in her capacity as the Visitor of IIT Madras had approved the appointment of Prof. Ramamurthi which was conveyed to the IIT-M Board of Governors Chairman Prof. M.M. Sharma on Thursday. “The chairman informed me this morning. I will assume charge on Friday morning,” the new director said.
To him, the IIT-M, along with the oldest IITs, has to elevate itself to the next stage in fundamental and translational research as both were required.
It would continue to pursue fundamental research contributing to global knowledge pool and leverage innovation and technology to produce visible success stories that would impact the society in a positive way in sectors like education and agriculture.
“People are looking up to the IITs to improve the quality of their lives, especially in rural India,” Prof. Ramamurthi said optimistic of delivering products and solutions suited to the inclusive growth model of the country.
Research would also be a major thrust area. Most of the IITs have doubled the Ph.Ds in the past five years but still the output was modest compared to that of China and doctoral scholars were required for industry and teaching, he pointed out.
Dean of Planning at IIT-M till now, he graduated from IIT-M in 1980 with a B.Tech in Electronics Engineering and then went on to pursue his M.S and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
After obtaining his doctorate, he joined the AT&T Bell Laboratories in the United States where he worked on problems in indoor wireless communications and joined the faculty at the Department of Electrical Engineering at IIT-in 1986.
His research area involves modulation and coding for mobile communications, wireless communication networks and design and implementation of wireless local loop systems.
He is a founding member of the Telecommunications and Computer Networking Group (TeNeT) that has come up with several products like Rural ATM, medical diagnostic kit and Indic computing to name a few.

Some e-birthday cake

Belated birthday wishes to Srikanth anna, appa and Anu akka.

This time, as appa's birthday fell on a sunday I was able to bake a cake for him.

The frosting is a butter cream coffee frosting. The topping was added for Vaishnavi's fancy. Lux athai and Seenu athimber were with us for lunch that day. We had a good time

Thanks for the wishes. This time we celebrated with Appa-Saradamma. Also Vinayakar Chaturthi & (Sama) Avani Avittam & prasad's WA.

They are back in KVP now. I came down with a bad bout of acidity - vomitting & thanks to Saradamma for taking over the kitchen! I am now 'limping back to normalcy' hehehe!

Wedding anniversary

Papa, Ramani and Lalita and Ganapati celebrate their wedding anniversary today.  Our best wishes to them.  I spoke to them a little while back.  With the call rates coming down so much, we are now able to make long long-distance calls without thinking about the ticking meter!

KN and Rukku are visiting Sringeri and should be back in Brindavan tomorrow afternoon.  Twice earlier they had planned to go but had to cancel the programme due to indisposition.

Happy anniversary

A very happy anniversary to Prasad anna - Charu manni, Gayathri akka - Sundaresan athimber.

Hope everybody had kozhukattais for Pillayar chathurthi. This time my kozhukattai was a biiig blooper. The maavu just did not shape up well and it just "sat" (okkaandhu pochu). Later I found that I added too much water to the flour. But the poornam was yumm. Wondering what to shape that up into now. Maybe polis :)
