Hope all's well with all of you.
My colleague Liffy Thomas sent me the link to her story on coaching for LKG entrance! It was sure a shocker to see something like that even existing and worst still, its demand growing. I'm already wondering if I could start requesting recommendation letters from The Hindu bigwigs (Bad timing. N.Ram has quit.).
How much more ridiculous can it get? Honestly, I would want Amrritha to get through one of these top schools for sure. But an entrance? And a coaching class for it? I'm seriously thinking of putting her in a modest Montessori school that does not introduce the concept of homework till secondary classes.
And the article says kids know which animal has the longest neck. I can never even pronounce giraffe till my 8th grade (I'm still not sure if I'm pronouncing it right.).
And a child that asked for a dustbin to throw the wrapper when the interviewers gave her a chocolate got selected! The same interviewers wouldn't mind one bit throwing a maligai list down the road on their way back home. Isn't it too much to expect something out of a kid that is hardly out of its toddler-hood?
I was reminded of an exchange between Prakash Raj and a school principal in Abiyum Naanum.
Princi: Unga ponnuku neechal theriyuma?
Prakash Raj: Ava eppa dhan nadakave aaramichirka, madam.
Where are we heading?
Here is the link to that story http://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/chennai/article2795333.ece?homepage=true
