THAMBI IS NO MORE
Thambi passed away this morning, Tamil new year's day.  Some of us had seen him only a few days ago, quite ill and in pain.
The end of a generation, as it were.
The funeral rites are being done as per Arya Samaj tradition.

Thambi

Yesterday Vimala and I, along with Priya and Shruti, visited Thambi.  His face lit up when he saw us and he spoke (even if haltingly) a few words, asking where I was coming from.  He asked who Shruti was and, when told, said something about being happy to see the new generation.
Ashok is looking after Thambi with total dedication.

It is saddening to see someone who, when in good health, was so full of energy and wanting to do things, lying helpless with a painful body.  We pray for his early recovery.

Happy birthday!

Ramaa, thanks for the post. Here is wishing Thambi (Anna) a happy birthday (belated though the message is). As I think of Thambi, my mind goes back to the times in Kalpakambal Nagar where, during one year, he took me to more than 100 movies! Mostly night shows, with a cup of tea in Irani Restaurant on the way back, after midnight. I was in my second and third year honours course then. Appa might have some times felt that I should have been studying rather than going to late night shows. But he never once said a word nor even conveyed by expression that he was displeased. I am sure about the number of movies as I kept a record of every movie that I saw and the book showed more than 120 entries in a little over a year.

May Thambi have good health and peace and enjoy many more birthdays.
