Namaskarams and many happy returns to Lux athai/athimber and Mani Perippa/Perimma

V has stepped into V standard this year, and with this starts a very rigorous routine. There are tests every week. She also starts with the quarterly/half yearly etc exams from this year onwards. So, exam time for us as well. The last weekend was a starter to how it's going to be. Though we do not pressurise her to study, there's so much!! God help us

MONTHLY CELEBRITIES

Shruti was good enough to find from Jayaram's computer the list of dates - birthdays and wedding anniversares - and send the list to my gmail ID. But I have not able to open the attachment. I sent her a reply and hope she will respond soon.

But, I am sad to find that participation in the blog is still very small.  There is no point in taking all the trouble if only half a dozen PSCians look in to the blog. Why this apathy. Dont we all want to belong, exchange news and views. Should we not at least know the names of our grand nephews and great grand neices and know how they are making a name for themselves.

I am very happy that Shruti took the trouble to post the article on Jayaraman. I felt very proud after reading it. 

Is it not a pity that all the knowledge, skills and talent which a person acquires during his life should vanish by death.

I am presently reading a biography of Lalgudi Jayaraman by Lakshmi Devnath. I want to quote a passage I liked much This is part of the advice given by the mother of Lalgudi's wife Rajam to her when she was first leaving for her PUKKAGAM. The idea is old and I learnt a Tamil poemfrom NAALADIAR with the same idea in school in Tamil but it is nicely put by Devnath.

"There is no household without problems. Look at those worse off than you and gain comfort; observe those better than you and feel inspired". 

In actual practice, most of us do  exactly the the opposite.

Dear Vivek, hearty congratulations from all of us here - on not only passing out with good scores but also able to get admission into a course of your choice

All the best for a great future

Vivek (P.C.Srinivas officially) passed the plus two exam with decent marks - 830 out of 1200. He has been able to get admission in the G.R.D.College, Coimbatore for the B.Sc.Visual Communication course which is what he wanted.  He wants to stay in the hostel. The college is in Peelamedu, across Coimbatore City from Kovaipudur, about 23 Km and no direct bus. 

The results of the UPSC Exam he wrote on 20th April for NDA Selection may come by end July and if he gets selected after the interview, he will take it and leave the college.

Hello everyone,
I don't think I've ever directly posted on the blog before. Thank you thatha, for keeping the blog alive.

News from here....well, our lives completely revolve around Netra now. She's growing up fast and is quite her own person. She's started going to a home-based daycare three times a week, so that's really sped up her interactive abilities.
Meanwhile, I'm working on a new dance production for Samskrita Bharati, Washington DC. The whole production is in Samskritam. Anuj and I've been pulling quite a few all-nighters recording music for the show (while Netra is asleep):D

Nice to see Vimala smiling in spite of the pain she must be having and the inconvenience.

Once, I jumped into a swimming pool in Woodlands Hotel without bending my legs to see if the water would buoy me up and ended up having a minor crack in the foot which needed a plaster and 21 days rest. Later when playing tennis (in Coonoor, in the UPASI touornament) the lace in one shoe got untied, I stepped on it with my other foot, the foot got twisted - result, a crack in the other foot. I continued playing in the tournament for another two days with Rallis Spray and found out on returning to Madras that it was a crack - 21 days again. I used the 'holiday' to do a lot of reading. But my office sent word to me to somehow attend an important meeting of the Fertiliser Association of India and sent me a car. The meeting was on the first floor and I went up hopping on one foot from step to step.

We should all try to keep the blog going. I myself can take up the lead but if a younger person takes it, it can be for a longer time. Anyway, I request Jayashankar to mail to me the list in Jayaram's computer giving the dates of weddings and births in the family. He had collected the information from all the persons in PSC family.

I do not enjoy sitting before a computer very much. So, I have not learned how to upload pictures songs etc in the blog or facebook. Vivek refuses to teach me and says I am a bad student whereas he is a bad teacher.

Anyway I will try to learn somehow and make the blog interesting. Akila is very active in facebook as also Aishwarya. They should contribute more to the blog.

I wonder whether at least now some of those who claim to be silent participants will like to make their presence felt.

A loss immeasurable

I don't know Jayaraman Perippa as much as the rest of the family. But I still struggle to come to terms with the reality of the situation. He was the kind of person who made me realize people who are fundamentally talented are fundamentally modest. It took just a bunch of get togethers, a couple of weddings and some long and short email exchanges to know him then and immeasurably miss him now. RIP, Jayaraman perippa. Ramakrishna Perippa, please continue the work that he has left and we will all pitch in to keep the blog going. L, Aishwarya, Koushik and Amrritha

Dear Family PSC,

Its almost a month since Appa passed away. It was so sudden, so quick, so unexpected...my logical mind tells me this was the best way for him...so do all my friends and family. Guess this is .right...and its our only consolation.

Shruti, Prashanth, Priya, Ujwala, Ramesh and Amma join me in thanking the Family for the overwhelming support. So many of you have called from all over the world, so many of you have called on us, stayed with us...I met a few whom I've never met before...its been great.

Appa's crosswords continue to be published, 3 a month in The Hindu, and the cross word bloggers continue to write about Appa. Am quite sure Appa never expected such high praise from this crossword community. Typical of him, he never did anything for the sake of being recognised.

The picture attached here was taken by Krishna Kumar on his last visit from the US. Thank you Kumar. I think it captures his mildly surprised, slightly proud expression whenever his grandchildren, whom he doted on, said or did anything smart.

I very much want to continue the blog though the number of PSCians who participate is very low compared to the size of the clan. But, if possible, I would like to coordinate as Jayaraman did. For this I need the information on Birth Dates, Anniversaries etc which is in his computer. Then I want guidance what I should do keep the blog alive. 

May I request all those, everybody, who sees the blog (even if not contributing) to now make an entry and say he/she would

VOID TOO BIG

How I wish I had contributed  to the blog  when my  beloved brother  Jayaraman  was there.  He would have been happy.

Every minute  and second  we  keep  thinking  about him, talking about him. Not a day passed without  Jayaraman and I discussing  music. I used call him "paatu mama'. Daily  when went out to pluck flowers  with  a stick,  he used to say,  "Kambu  mami vandhutta."   We don't  know  how to get  over  this.

But god has been kind. Our  prayers  that Jayaram should not suffer were answered. But the void is sooo big How we miss you Jayaram. 

Let us  maintain  and  continue  the  blog . That  will be the tribute  we pay  to our dear  Jayaram.

We are all slowly coming to grips with the new situation.. Brindavan continues to have visitors and there is a small crowd talking and eating together. The Subasveekara Homam is fixed for Thursday the 27th Feb after which slowly the visitors will go one by one and then the vacuum will hit us. But what to do, we have to force ourselves to continue our routines and accept the situation and learn to live with it. But, it would have been much more difficult to see Jayaram go through Chemotherpy and the related effects. God has been kind to him. May his soul rest in peace.

J chittappa - can't believe..............

Struggling to come to terms that you are not with us any more. You have truly proved that you were a 'punyatma' - it is everyone's wish to get 'anaayaasena maranam' - God saw to it that you went to Him easily. Full credit to chitti and the family to take the right decision that you had wanted.

What will become of this blog now? It's lifeline is gone :( :( :( :(

Hahaha chittappa, I did not sing. Bombay Gnanam staged her play Bodhendraal at Shanmukhananda and Chembur Fine Arts over last weekend. I was roped in to come in leading a Bhagavataal troupe in the last scene with the backdrop of present day Govindapuram. Recorded bhajana music was played.

I will be in Madras coming weekend for my Goa machinar's grand daughter's wedding. My train tickets were bought well in advance, but with my leg still not ok, I am a just a bit apprehensive - I am travelling alone too :( Hope I get back with no further set backs .....
