End of vacations
Well, we are almost at the end of the vacations, with just another week to go before school starts. We did not step out of Chennai these holidays. Just decided to stay back and visit the not-so-frequently-visited or the newest-in-town places. So, a trip to the beach and 2 newest malls, was the most of it. Of course, the initial part was the best with Koushik and Aishwarya being here.
I tried to have "extended" weekends by working from home all Fridays. If not anything else, atleast I am at home!! V and I made the most of the mango season this year, apart from having it directly as a fruit. We tried our hands at making a few desserts with mango.
Appa has been away for almost a week, going around Tuticorin, Tirunelveli etc. That's how we spent our vacations :)

Horse menace
Wow peripa...quite an experience you've had!
Thoughts of God arise only in anticipation of events, when one prays and commits all sorts of things to God eg breaking coconuts, visiting temples etc. oftentimes these promises are forgotten after the event.
When one is in the midst of an event, thoughts of God, or indeed anything at all...are rare. The natural response in such situations is Fight or Flight. Without realising it, you have chosen to fight, by freezing! Good for you. Now that it's all over, you have a tale to tell your great grand children.
Love, Jayashankar

Appa's mail reads like horror story! Whether he called to Guruvayurappan or not, thank God He made the horse stop and change tracks!
I have been having a spell of cold and cough after my return from Sakatapuram - and on top of this, I will be singing for Bhakta Sakha Vitthala's 25th performance this evening at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan! After a gap of ten years, commuting in Bombay for the rehearsals, especially in this weather really tires me out :(
S & I are leaving for Madras tomorrow to attend the tenth day rites for Delhi Raghavan Athimber (Tiruppugazh Guruji) who passed away last Friday.
Rajiv and Nameeta with Trilok spent last weekend with us here in Mulund. And now, we get to see both the babies on Facetime :)

Horse menace
I had a most frightening experience this morning of a horse charging me.
It is usual to see stray horses in Kovaipudur. A group of three horses
have been roaming here for a few days. This morning I was as usual
walking in the maidan opposite my house and the three horses came in
from the road. One of them was possibly in a playful mood and it
started running about wildly; it would run for a short distance and
return to the other two. There were no walkers near me at that time.
Suddenly the running horse was stopping and turned its head and kept
staring at me. I was about 400 feet from it and I also stopped
wondering what was going to happen, because earlier it had run along
without going near the walkers. Suddenly it started running wildly to
wards me, its mane and tail up. There was no point in my running or
moving left or right as I was an open target. The horse kept rushing
to wards me and when it was about 15 feet from me it suddenly changed
course and went behind me. I could not move for a few seconds, I could
hear my heart thudding and my stomach churning like a washing machine.
Slowly I gathered myself and started walking, looking back frequently
to make sure it was not coming at me again. It is now 3 PM and my
stomach his still not come back to normal.
When the horse was staring at me and started charging, if I had been a
person with Bhakthi, I should have thought of God and started saying
something like Guruvayurappa but I did nothing. So much for my
bhakthi.
In Kovaipudur, normally a group of three horses (it is always three)
would appear and keep roaming about; one day it will become two, then
one and then it will also disappear. After some time, another three
will appear. I wonder what is going on but may be some body buys three
horses at a time and one by one it is converted into meat.
Two years ago there was news item in the Hindu that in Vadavalli this
menace is there and two old men were killed by horse attack and bite. I
then sent a 'letters to the editor' to the Hindu together with photoes
of the three horses scanning a garbage can here by email but the
letter was not published.
This time, I am going to take up the matter with the local Councillor
through the Welfare Association of which I am a life member.

(The above is the text of an e-mail sent by Ramakrishnan.)
Thank God!

Belated birthday greetings to Ram, whose birthday
was yesterday, 14th May. Vimala and I spoke to him, however. In fact, he called to thank us, in pureTamil, for the birthday greetings mail we had sent him!

Many Happy Returns to Jayashankar and Priya on their 23rd wedding anniversary. Yesterday they had come to my house and I did not remember but I remember his wedding at the Raja Kalyana Mandapam in Luz. All the best for a happy, healthy long prosperous life.
Either my computer is slow or the net is slow but I type something and it appears on the screen a minute later.

Conversation with V
Last Friday we had gone (well, rushed actually) to coffee day from the beach, because V needed to go to the toilet and it was URGENT.
A much relieved V came out and was kind of scared. Here was the conversation:
V: You know what happened, I went in and locked myself. When I tried to open the door it would not open. I got very scared.
Me: Achacho, then what happened (actually said "appram enna achu")?
V: Appram enna, am here now. Obviously I managed to open the door and came out!!!
Huh, so much for listening with interest.

Happy birthday
Wow, Cheenu athimber is now 80 as well!! Namaskarams to you athimber.
Just a little over a week of the summer vacation has gone by. I had taken off from work this week to be with V. Went to the Eliot's beach today and took appa and amma as well. I don't know how many years it has been since they both visited the beach. We had a good time. Missed Jayaram perippa and perimma, and spoke of you a lot today while we were there.
I am already in my "Monday" morning blues thinking of work next week!! Why is it not so easy to live in the "Now"..
