AAAAAWWWWWW!! BEAUTIFULLLL! Ippadi allavo irukkanum! Thanks for the heart-warming message Chittappa!

You might have seen ads in the papers about 5000 musicians getting together under Sri Sri RaviShankar's Art of Living on Jan 30, 2010 at Perungalathur, Chennai. A set of songs sung by Chinmaya Sisters is up at www.naadhavaibhavam.in. The participants have to practise these and show up for a rehearsal on Jan 29. I think this website is accessible to all.

Wishes and updates

Belated birthday wishes to Prashanth and Bhuvana Perimma.

I think this is my first post since Diwali. Hope everybody had a great diwali, we definitely did :) I tried making a different sweet this time (apart from the usual suspect - Gulab Jamun). Made chocolate walnut burfi from one of Sanjeev Kapoor's books. The dish itself is not as fancy as its name though. Finally, it turned out to be layered theratti paal (phew after all that effort)!!. Chocolate flavoured theratti paal wedged in-between 2 layers of plain theratti paal, topped with chocolate!!! Well, anything chocolate definitely tastes good. So, yes it was real yumm.

Otherwise, just the normal routine with Vaishnavi falling sick every 3-4 weeks!!

A joke from Times of India:
Boy: Do you love me because my father left me a fortune?
Girl: No, stupid. I would love you no matter who left you the money.

1. Ramakrishnan, that song of Madurai Mani is a very good one. He used to sing it in most of his concerts. Now, I am not hearing that in any concert.
2. A joke from TOI:
Two friends were searching for their wives.
Friend 1: How does your wife look?
Friend 2 : Tall, fair, beautiful, and charming. What about your wife?
Friend 1 : Forget her. Let us look for yours.

FROM RAMAKRISHNAN

The famous movie RamaRajya came in the 1940s and had a song by Latha "Bina Madhura Madhura Kachibo". Madurai Mani heard this and asked a friend-composer to write a song in the same tune and thus was born the popular song KANDAN KARUNAI PURIYUM VADIVEL in Bimplas. I read this in Amudha Surabhi magazine.

From Ramu

1. Happy birthday, Karthik. Many happy returns of the day.
2. Very nice to know the Diwali eve was celebrated well in Brindavan. I am able to imagine how it would have been, as I was there recently. A very nice group of people, always active .
3. A joke from the first stage play of Kathadi Ramurthy, " Matchless Matches".
A man borrows Rs.50 from a friend on a Wednesday, promising to return on Saturday. On Saturday, he borrows Rs.50 from another friend promising to return on Wednesday, and gives it to the first friend. Again, on Wed., he borrows Rs.50 from the first friend and gives it to the second friend. This goes on for sometime. Suddenly, he stops paying both his friends. One day both the friends catch him and ask their Rs.50. This man tells them," see, I am busy these days. So, do not trouble me. Every Wednesday you give him Rs.50 and you ( the second friend) give him Rs.50, every Saturday".
I used to play the roll of Mr.Wednesday.

Singing duo

This is a rather late post.

On Deepavali-eve, there was a variety enertainment programme at Brindavan Palm Grove. For more than an hour, residents and some of their guests sang, film songs in all languages. Rukku and Jayaraman presented the "Meera" song, "Characharam". They had practised for a few days, but were still nervous. They had no need to, for it was really a good effort and was well and widely appreciated. A "therukoothu" by two resident-ladies evoked loud applause.

It was a jolly evening in Brindavan and the large gathering enjoyed it, despite early rain and continuing threat of rain, which made a planned buffet on the lawns move inside.

Miscellaneous

I got the following from "A Word A Day":
Jayaraman

The American Hyphen Society is a community-based, not-for-profit, grass-roots consciousness-raising/education-research alliance that seeks to help effectuate the across-the-board self-empowerment of wide-ranging culture-, nationality-, ethnicity-, creed-, gender-, and sexual-orientation defined identity groups by excising all multiculturally-less-than-sensitive terminology from the English language, and replacing it with counter-hegemonic, cruelty-, gender-, bias-, and, if necessary, content-free speech.
The society's motto is "It became necessary to destroy the language in order to save it."
Its headquarters are in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

Greetings

Happy birthday, Kartik!

O GOD Ramu chittappa, it was unbearable. Shanta parima kept herself so dignified. Seetha - what to say - what parent can bear such a thing!
It's worse when you are famous and the news is flashed repeatedly all over tv.

It was shocking to know the sad demise of Swetha, P.C.Sriram's daughter, that she fell from fourth floor and died. Me & Sarada went to their house yesterday and it was pathetic to see Sriram & his wife.

1. Happy wedding anniversary, Rajan-Anu. Many happy returns of the day.
No one can forget Anu's wedding at Thirupathy. The trip was really an adventure . We were in Hyderabad then. I had booked a train ticket to Chennai, for the marriage. But I wanted to cancel the trip as trains were running late due to heavy downpour. Ashok forced me to go and made sure I boarded the train by sending escorts to the station.
2. A joke from Times of India:
Teacher: John, why are you late to school today?
John: Because of the sign board outside.
Teacher : What board?
John: There is a board on the road " go slow ".
