Our Heartfelt Condolences to Pratima and her daughters

We are very much saddened to learn about the sudden passing away of Raman on the 27th inst. When Raman and Pratima were in Ranchi, they used to visit us often at Calcutta where I was posted then. Mythili and I remember those good days. We wish to convey our sympathies to Pratima and her family members on their loss. We pray that Raman's soul may rest in peace.

Raman is no more

We record with great sorrow the sudden demise of Raman (Balaraman) earlier today, the 27th January. All of us who have known him over the years will miss him, his down to earth nature and his warmth. May his soul rest in peace.

Backup

Perippa, Sorry for my late response. Are you talking about the "Backup your data" option under the "Performance and Maintanence" option? If so, then that seems to be just a wizard that makes it easier for us to take a backup rather than copy files individually from the Windows Explorer. I noticed there was such an option only after you pointed it out to me :) Guess I am so used to the old ways.

Happy Pongal Vaazhthukkal to everyone!
For us it is really a Happy one as we are eagerly looking forward to Ramya's arrival on 19th. We plan to go to Kovaipudur the same night and Rajiv will join us there.
Ramya is making the trip for renewing her visa, & we are praying that she faces no hurdles there. She will be here for two weeks, a 4 day trip to Bombay thrown in within that time.
Hope to meet you all soon.

Backing up

Thanks, Akila, for the info. But why then should there be a separate 'backup' menu item under system tools? Can you check in your computer and tell me?

Thursday, January 10, 2008

Backup

Perippa, backup is nothing but copying your files from one location and saving it elsewhere. What you could do is, just zip all files that are important to you and mail it to your own email id. So that you could access them anywhere. If you have an external backup device, like a USB or external hard disk, you could copy the files there also.

Happy birthday, Meghna!

Meghna celebrated her birthday on 8 January. Best wishes to her.

My computer was behaving frightfully yesterday, hence this delay. Responding to an error report, Microsoft tells me that some hardware may be malfunctioning and advises me to back up my files. But I do not find the 'back up' command when I open 'System Tools'. Can anuyone advise?

Our New Year

We attended Lalgudi GJR Krishnan & Vijayalakshmi's New Year concert at Mylapore Fine Arts -it was a very good concert. Back home & lunch -after one or two trials at the sabha canteens, we preferred home food!
Evening was spent at my sis-in-law Ponnakka's place, where we enjoyed an arattai session!
So that was our New Year Day! Rather tame, no??!!

Our New Year

This year our New year was full of activity though we did not step out of our apartment. Our apartment association had organized some events on the New Year's eve and an orchestra was part of it. Vaishnavi also had a good time listening to the songs. On the 1st we went to see Jagadguru Shakatapuram Swamigal.

I started the new year by trying 2 new recipes - Kulfi and Banana nut cake. Got the recipe from here - http://sumiskitchen.blogspot.com/2006/03/banana-nut-bread.html. Mohan started the year by studying/working :)

New Year thoughts

So we have a new year. For me and Vimala, it was a quiet new year eve, spent at home. I hope 2008 brings greater peace in the world and health and happiness to all in the family.

Having said that, what is so great about any new year day? For most of us, it is just another day in life. In the Ministries of the Central government, it was a day when little work got done, with all the officers and staff moving from room to room to 'wish' everyone else a happy new year

I have never been a one for new year resolutions, knowing how transient they are in actuality.

It would be interesting to hear from others what their own thoughts are.
